13 “For example, there was GOD’s promise to Abraham.  Since there was no one greater to swear by, GOD took an oath in HIS own name, saying: 14 ‘I will certainly bless you richly, and I will multiply your descendants into countless millions’.  15 Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what GOD had promised.”  ~ Hebrews 6:13-15

Abraham waited patiently; it was twenty-five years from the time GOD had promised him a son to the time of Isaac’s birth.   – 4 “Then the LORD said to him, ‘No your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own to inherit everything I am giving you’.  5 Then the LORD brought Abram outside beneath the sky and told him, ‘Look into the heavens and count the stars if you can.  Your descendants will be like that – too many to count!’”  – Genesis 15:4-5    – 1 Then the LORD did exactly what HE had promised.  2 Sarah became pregnant, and she gave a son to Abraham in his old age.  It all happened at the time GOD had said it would.  3 And Abraham named his son Isaac.”  – Genesis 21:1-3   – Abram was not promised wealth or fame, he already had that.  Instead, GOD promised descendants like the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore, too numerous to count.  To appreciate the vast number of stars scattered through the sky, you need to be, like Abram, away from any distractions.  Or pick up a handful of sand and try to count the grains – it can not be done!  Just when Abram was despairing of ever having an heir, GOD promised descendants too numerous to imagine.  GOD’s blessings are far beyond our imagination!

Because our trials and temptations are often so intense, they seem to last for an eternity.  Both the Bible and the testimony of mature Christians encourage us to wait for GOD to act in HIS timing, even when our needs seem too great to wait any longer.

 

Father GOD, YOUR timing is perfect and YOUR promises are true.  We know we must wait patiently and we will receive what YOU have promised us.  Forgive us when our trials and temptations seem to be too intense to wait for you and we move ahead of YOU.  We know and believe that YOU will do exactly as YOU have promised in YOUR perfect timing.  YOUR blessings LORD are far beyond our imagination.
