4 “This shows that GOD’s Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name GOD have Him is far greater than their names. 5 For GOD never said to any angel what HE said to Jesus: ‘You are MY Son. Today I have become Your Father.’ And again GOD said, ‘I will be His Father, and He will be MY Son.’ 6 And then, when HE presented HIS honored Son to the world GOD said, ‘Let all the angels of GOD worship Him.’” ~ Hebrews 1:4-6
The superior name that was given to Jesus is “Son of GOD”. This name given to Him by His Father is greater than the names and titles of the angels.
False teachers in many of the early churches taught that GOD could be approached only through angels. Instead of worshiping GOD directly, followers of these heretics revered angels. This passage in the book of Hebrews clearly denounces such teaching as false. Some thought of Jesus as the highest angel of GOD. But Jesus is not a superior angel, and in any case, angels are not to be worshiped. – “Do not let anyone condemn you by insisting on self-denial, do not let anyone say you must worship angels, even though they say they have had visions about this. These people claim to be so humble, but their sinful minds have made them proud.” – Colossians 2:18 – “Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, ‘No, do not worship me. For I am a servant of GOD, just like you and other brothers and sisters who testify of their faith in Jesus. Worship GOD. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus’”. – Revelation 19:10 – We should not regard any intermediaries or authorities as greater than Christ. Jesus is GOD. He alone deserves our worship. Jesus is GOD’s honored, firstborn Son. In Jewish families the firstborn son held the place of highest privilege and responsibility. The Jewish Christians reading this message would understand that as GOD’s firstborn, Jesus was (and still is) superior to any created being.
7 “GOD calls HIS angels ‘messengers swift as wind, and servants made of flaming fire’. 8 But to HIS Son HE says, ‘Your throne, O GOD, endures forever and ever. Your royal power is expressed in righteousness. 9 You love what is right and hate what is wrong. Therefore, GOD, Your GOD, has anointed You, pouring out the oil of joy on You more than anyone else’”. – Hebrews 1:7-9
Jesus we acknowledge and praise You. Your throne endures forever and ever. Your royal power is expressed in righteousness. You love what is right and hate what is wrong. The GOD and Father of us all has anointed You, pouring out the oil of joy on You more than anyone else. Thank You Jesus, for spilling Your oil of joy over onto us! YOU are GOD and YOU alone are worthy of all praise.
