8 “Stop your anger! Turn from your rage! Do no envy others – it only leads to harm. 9 For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the LORD will possess the land.” ~ Psalm 37:8-9
Anger, rage, and envy are very destructive emotions. They reveal a lack of faith that GOD loves us and is in control. We should not worry; instead, we should trust in GOD, giving ourselves to HIM for HIS use and safekeeping. When we dwell on our problems, we will become anxious and angry. But if we concentrate on GOD and HIS goodness, we will find peace.
10 “In a little while, the wicked will disappear. Though you look for them, they will be gone. 11 Those who are gentle and lowly will possess the land; they will live in prosperous security.” – Psalm 37:10-11 – Being gentle and lowly hardly seems the proper demeanor to deal with enemies. GOD’s warfare, however, must be carried out with calm faith, humility before GOD, and hope in HIS deliverance. Jesus also promises a sure reward for those with humble hearts and attitudes. – “GOD blesses those who are gentle and lowly, for the whole earth will belong to them.” – Matthew 5:5 – GOD’s way of living usually contradicts the worlds. If we want to live for GOD, we must be ready to say and do what seems strange to the world. We must be willing to give when others take, to love when others hate, to help when others abuse. By giving up our own rights in order to serve others, we will one day receive everything GOD has in store for us.
How is your attitude? Is it a carbon copy of the world’s selfishness, pride, and lust for power, or does it reflect the humility and self-sacrifice of Jesus, our King?
LORD, sometimes I let the smallest things make me angry and later regret that I have done so. Help me Father to put my faith in YOUR love and know that YOU are in control of even the smallest things. I want to trust in YOU and give myself to YOU for YOUR use and safekeeping – I want to find peace. LORD, YOUR Word says that YOU promise a sure reward for those with humble hearts and attitudes, I want to be sure my attitude is free of selfishness, pride, anger, envy, rage, and a lust for the worlds power. I want to reflect the humility and self-sacrifice of Jesus – my King.
