1 “To YOU, O LORD, I lift up my soul. 2 I trust in YOU, my GOD! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. 3 No one who trusts in YOU will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.” ~ Psalm 25:1-3
Out of the 150 Psalms, there are 72, almost half the book, speaks about enemies. Enemies are those who not only oppose us, but also GOD’s way of living. We can view temptations – money, success, prestige, lust – as our enemies. But our greatest enemy is Satan. David asked GOD to keep his enemies from overcoming him because they opposed what GOD stood for. If his enemies succeeded, David feared that many would think that living for GOD was futile. David did not question his own faith – he knew that GOD would triumph. But he didn’t want his enemies’ success to be an obstacle to the faith of others.
4 “Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD, point out the right road for me to follow. 5 Lead me by YOUR truth and teach me, for YOU are the GOD who saves me. All day long I put my hope in YOU”. 25:4-5 – David expressed his desire for guidance. How do we receive GOD’s guidance? The first step is to want to be guided and to realize that GOD’s primary guidance system is in HIS Word – the Bible. Psalm 119 tells of the endless knowledge found in GOD’s Word. By reading it and constantly learning from it, we will gain the wisdom to perceive GOD’s direction for our lives. We may be tempted to demand answers from GOD, but David asked for direction. When we are willing to seek GOD, learn from HIS Word, and obey HIS commands, then we will receive HIS specific guidance.
To YOU, O LORD, we lift up our souls. We trust in YOU, our GOD! LORD, we know that no one who trusts in YOU will ever be disgraced and that disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. Show us Father GOD, the path where we should walk. Point out the right road for us to follow. Lead us by YOUR truth and teach us, for YOU are the GOD who saves us. All day long – every day – we put our hope in YOU. Remember, O LORD, YOUR unfailing love and compassion, which YOU have shown from long years past and forgive the rebellious sins of our youth. We ask YOU, Father GOD, to look instead through the eyes of YOUR unfailing love, for YOU are merciful, O LORD – and we are grateful.
